A Child view on World Heritage: Macau Drawing Contest for Children 2011 is organized by the Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association.

Objective

A Child view on World Heritage: Macau Drawing Contest for Children 2011 is organized by the Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association. Its objective is to bring awareness of the World Heritage, a relic of modern civilization, to the children of Macau.

The betterment of social cohesion and strengthening of Macau’s cultural and creative industries are the cornerstones of our intellectual freedoms. Based on these principles, a non-profit organization known as the Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Industry Association has been established. One of our goals is to organize more culture-promoting activities in order to build a platform on which to harbor long-term development of artistic fluency and etiquette liberation. At the same time, we are determined to bridge regional and national organizations in pursuit of the same goal, in order to encourage cooperation opportunities where they may be found.

Theme

Macau’s historic cityscape was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage in 2005. The constructions included Chinese temples, churches and architecture uniquely blended with eastern and western elements. Its existence resulted from the impact and exchange of various cultures in Macau hundreds of years ago which are non-replaceable.

We have been immersed and living in this cultured land, yet what it looks like in the innocentn eyes of a child and what feeling relics of this old land inspire in them is a question worth answering.

Master Picasso once said, “Everybody would like to draw like a master, but the master would like to draw like a child.” A child’s mind is free to do as it wishes and this is exactly what we want to encourage. We sincerely hope that our children can draw the bits of heritage they love the most. They must be proud of their home in order for its spirit to be passed to the next generations like the spirits of our ancestors.

Result Announcement:

“A Child’s View on World Heritage” Macau Drawing Contest for Children 2011 organized by the Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association finished on May 31. A total of over 600 pieces of work have been received in which 126 are from the senior category, 279 from the intermediate category and 204 from the junior category. The assessment was successfully completed on June 14.

Our panel of judges for this contest consisted of: Vice President Hei Luk of the Macau Artist Society, Vice Dean Zhichang Pan of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology, Director Wai-Meng Lau of the Macao Post, Functional Head Edmond Ka-Chon Lo of the Macao Museum of Art, Acting Chief Kent Chi-Kin Leong of the Cultural Activity Dept. of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao, Course Coordinator Anita Pou-Chu Fung of the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Renowned Designer and Charter President Wilson Chi-Ian Lam of Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association, and local artist Joey Chong-I Ho.

During the judging process, our judges were astonished by the talent and creativity put into each work. They spent ample amounts of time before they could arrive at a decision because each of these works fully expressed a child’s passions towards Macau’s Heritage. The rich and vivid expressions in poster colors, watercolors, crayons, pastels, wood colors, collage and water ink were amazing. The bold and lively use of colors in each submission was interesting and had a unique perspective. Each artwork is filled with naivety and creativity and it is these qualities that will preserve Macau’s heritage for the generations to come. It was especially difficult to choose a clear winner in the junior category so there will be two champions.

The organizers have said that the submissions, from a quantity and quality’s perspective, showed detailed concern and attention to the local art and inspirations of Macau. Whether from the government sector, civil society, educational institutions or individuals, the inspiration was candidly drawn.

The supporting units of this activity consist of: the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR, the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the Macao Post, the Macau Art Society and the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology. Sponsors include: Macau Creations, the Welfare Printing Limited, Meow Space, the Ox Warehouse and Pinto Livros actively participated in the distribution of leaflets.
