Macau’s historic cityscape was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage in 2005. The constructions included Chinese temples, churches and architecture uniquely blended with eastern and western elements. Its existence resulted from the impact and exchange of various cultures in Macau hundreds of years ago which are non-replaceable. A child’s mind is free to do as it wishes and this is exactly what we want to encourage. We sincerely hope that our children can draw the bits of heritage they love the most. They must be proud of their home in order for its spirit to be passed to the next generations like the spirits of our ancestors.

“A Child’s View on World Heritage” Macau Drawing Contest for Children 2011 organized by the Headquarters of the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association finished on May 31. A total of over 600 pieces of work have been received in which 126 are from the senior category, 279 from the intermediate category and 204 from the junior category.

During the judging process, our judges were astonished by the talent and creativity put into each work. They spent ample amounts of time before they could arrive at a decision because each of these works fully expressed a child’s passions towards Macau’s Heritage. The rich and vivid expressions in poster colors, watercolors, crayons, pastels, wood colors, collage and water ink were amazing. The bold and lively use of colors in each submission was interesting and had a unique perspective. Each artwork is filled with naivety and creativity and it is these qualities that will preserve Macau’s heritage for the generations to come. It was especially difficult to choose a clear winner in the junior category so there will be two champions.

From a quantity and quality’s perspective, showed detailed concern and attention to the local art and inspirations of Macau. Whether from the government sector, civil society, educational institutions or individuals, the inspiration was candidly drawn.

These innocent drawings of naivety and creativity add a genuine touch of color to the world. Each piece of artwork created by these children is excellent. We are dedicated to build an accepting world for our little artists where they can come together and show their creative colors.
